Augmented Burnett-Equation Solutions over Axisymmetric Blunt Bodies in Hypersonic Flow

چکیده
We obtained augmented Burnett-equation solutions and conducted some preliminary studies on the extent to which the Burnett equations can be used in estimating the departure from the NavierStokes model for hypersonic flow over axisymmetric blunt bodies. The augmented Burnett equation solutions were restricted to the flow inside the bow shock in the stagnation region because of the uncertainty of boundary conditions. On one hand, the present results partly confirm the past observation that the Burnett equations can only make insignificant improvement over the Navier-Stokes equations when the latter are adequate, but the Burnett equations fail when the NavierStokes equations become inadequate. On the other hand, though both the NavierStokes and Burnett equations are inaccurate for flow inside a strong shock, to some extent the augmented Burnett solutions do seem to agree better with results obtained by the direct simulation Monte Carlo technique than the Navier-Stokes solutions do. Further studies are needed on the validity and significance of the augmented Burnett solutions for such flowfields.

Approximate Viscous Shock-Layer Analysis of Axisymmetric Bodies in Perfect Gas Hypersonic Flow
In this paper, an approximate axisymmetric method is developed which can reliably calculate fully viscous hypersonic flow over blunt-nosed bodies. In this method, a Maslen’s second-order pressure expression is used instead of the normal momentum equation. The combination of Maslen’s second-order pressure expression and viscous shock layer equations is developed to accurately and efficiently com...
متن کاملLaminar and Turbulent Aero Heating Predictions over Blunt Body in Hypersonic Flow
In the present work, an engineering method is developed to predict laminar and turbulent heating-rate solutions for blunt reentry spacecraft at hypersonic conditions. The calculation of aerodynamic heating around blunt bodies requires alternative solution of inviscid flow field around the hypersonic bodies. In this paper, the procedure is of an inverse nature, that is, a shock wave is assumed a...
متن کاملComputations of Hypersonic Flow of a Diatomic Gas in Rotational Non-Equilibrium past 3D Blunt Bodies Using the Generalized Boltzmann Equation
Direct methods for solving the generalized Boltzmann equation are advanced by simulating flow past threedimensional immersed bodies in diatomic nitrogen in rotational-translational non-equilibrium. The simulations are performed by solving the entire domain with the generalized Boltzmann equation using a solver based upon the conservative discrete ordinates method of Tcheremissine. Coarse and re...
متن کاملSome aspects of hypersonic flow over power law bodies
This study concerns the hypersonic flow over blunt bodies in two specific cases. The first is the case when the Mach number is infinite and the ratio of the specific heats approaches one. This is sometimes referred to as the ‘Newtonian limit’. The second is the case of infinite Mach number and very large streamwise distance from the blunt nose with a strong shock wave, or the ‘blast wave limit ...
متن کاملFinite - Di erence Solution for Laminar or Turbulent Boundary Layer Flow Over Axisymmetric Bodies With Ideal Gas
A computer code has been developed that uses an implicit nitedi erence technique to solve nonsimilar, axisymmetric boundary layer equations for both laminar and turbulent ow. The code can treat ideal gases, air in chemical equilibrium, and carbon tetra uoride (CF4), which is a useful test gas for hypersonic blunt-body simulations. This is the only known boundary layer code that can treat CF4. C...
